 | Field Maple
Field Maple is a fast growing (30/60cm pa), native, deciduous hedging plant, which is used both in a mixed hedge (though it is often faster growing than other species in a mixed hedge so can make it look slightly untidy) or as a single species hedge. Field Maple has 5 lobed leaves which are green/red in spring and summer and then in autumn turn a lovely buttery yellow colour. It has small yellow/green flowers in spring and winged seeds (like helicopters) in autumn.
It likes most soils and positions, including coastal, chalky and exposed sites but is not suited to full shade. Field Maple should be trimmed to shape at the beginning of winter.
We sell Field Maple in both potted and bare root forms, depending on the season.
Bare root plants are available November until March. Please see our Bare Root/Transplant section for full details. You can pre-order to guarantee an early delivery date - either order online (credit or debit cards are charged immediately) or call our order line on 01225 422077 to order by telephone (credit or debit cards will be charged a few days before despatch).
